- Click button "Convert" in the top right of the program's main pane, to start batch converting your video files. On the bottom right of the main pane, you'll notice the "Original File Info ...", which is very important to set up your "Video Conversion Profile" exactly the same as the original file info. Otherwise you'll probably have the choppy/stuttering/clicking/crackling/noisy video and audio problems.

- If you want to stop converting the current video file in the middle of process, press "Stop"
- Once the Batch Conversion job is done, the program will tell you conversion status of each file. Below is the detail of each status:
"Done" means the video file has been converted successfully;
"Aborted" indicates the video file can't be converted in the Batch Mode, you need to use the Single Video Converter to convert it;
"Failed" shows that the file can't be converted in Batch Mode, you should use the Video Converter (Single Mode) instead;
"To Do" demonstrates the video file is currently in conversion job queue
Go check the "Output Folder" in your iPod Video Batch Converter, to locate all of the finished videos in your assigned folder. You need to convert those video files which can't be converted under the Batch Mode and the status is listed as "Aborted", in the AVex iPod Video Converter (single mode), one by one.
High resolution (640x480), video bitrate (512kbps+) and audio bitrate (96kbps+) will definitely take more time to convert. If you want a fast conversion, keep resolution as 320x240, video bitrate as 300kbps, audio bitrate as 80kbps. Then the conversion speed should be 2 or 3 times of the playback speed.

Q: I get an error message saying: "Error: cannot create output file. Output folder does not exist or you have no permission to create files in the output folder. Try to set another output folder under File Menu."; or "Unable to set recorded file name"; or "Cannot create recorded file"; or "Cannot open output file"; or "Cannot create recorded file", after I click the "Convert" button, what happen?
|
A: First, please click here to download and install Xvid 1.0 final.
Make sure the output folder exists, and is not protected from write and you have the privilege to write. Please check whether the output path is still valid, you may set the output path in the "File" menu.
How to set output filename & location?
Then, launch AVex program -> click "Browse" button in the bottom of the program's main pane -> select a folder where you have the administrator's privilege or write privilege in the "Browse for Folder" window, for instance, if you can create a folder named "for instance" in drive C:\, then select "C:\for instance" as your output folder -> click "OK" in the "Browse for Folder" window.
Please contact support@avex-dvd.com, for further assistance, if none of the above solutions work for you. Please don't forget to add the "C:\temp\avex.elog" as an attachment when you write to the AVex support.

Q: I know that the trial version will only record 5-10 minutes of the movie, but I still can't record the entire movie after I activate the product, can you help?
|
A: Please upgrade to DirectX 9.0c. Download and install MpegDecoder-1/2, AC3Filter, and choose "Microsoft DVD Navigator" as DVD navigator, MpegDecoder012 as DVD Video Decoder, AC3Filter as DVD Audio Decoder in the "DVD Settings" dialog.
However, if you're using the AVex Video-Only Converter(inlcuding AVex iPod Video Converter, AVex iPhone Video Converter, AVex Apple TV Video Converter, AVex Zune Video Converter, AVex PSP Video Converter, AVex 3GP Mobile Video Converter, AVex Video Converter Platinum), there won't be any "DVD Settings" in "Options" menu. You need to:
(1) Download the K-Lite Codec Pack, if the link doesn't work for you, download it at: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm, and install it on your system
(2) Click windows "Start" menu -> "All Programs" -> "K-Lite Codec Pack" -> "Tools" -> "GSpot Codec Information"
(3) Click the pink button " ... ", select the original video file(s) to be checked
(4) At the bottom of GSpot program, click the pink button "1" under "MS A/V", the GSpot program should display the audio filter and video filter used by the original video file, e.g.:
Render OK; the following combination of filters was used:
(Src)-->[CoreAVC Video Decoder ]>--(A)-->[Video Renderer ]
(Src)-->[ffdshow Audio Decoder ]>--(A)-->[AC3Filter ]>--(B)-->[Default DirectSound Device]
It's possible that the original video file can't be rendered by the GSpot program, it will probably prompt the error message as shown below:
Warning: DirectShow Crashed while attempting to render this file
This is usually due to damaged, misconfigured, conflicting, or poorly written codec drivers. It is possible, perhaps even likely, that other media players will crash when they attemp to play this file as well, as most of them will also use DirectShow. Although GSpot was able to intercept the crash, attempts to identify the codec which caused it have failed. Unfortunately, no additional information is available at this time.
Please don't panic when you see this warning. You can uninstall your Xvid codec, restart, reinstall Xvid Codec; or uninstall and reinstall your ffdshow codec. Meanwhile, apply this uninstall and reinstall process on your Graphics Card Driver and DirectX 9.0c.
(5) In Step (4), if you're able to read the audio and video filter:
(Src)-->[CoreAVC Video Decoder ]>--(A)-->[Video Renderer ]
(Src)-->[ffdshow Audio Decoder ]>--(A)-->[AC3Filter ]>--(B)-->[Default DirectSound Device]
uninstall the ffdshow and AC3Filter, or whatever the audio decoder and video decoder shown on your GSpot program, restart your system when possible. Then you should be able to start the problematic video files.
Please contact support@avex-dvd.com, for further assistance, if none of the above solutions work for you. Please don't forget to add the "C:\temp\avex.elog" as an attachment when you write to the AVex support.

Q: I've been waiting about an hour for a 2-hour DVD movie conversion using your product, but the converted file end up with only 2KB, what went wrong?
|
A: Double check your "DVD Settings" in the "Options" menu, the AVex program prefers Microsoft DVD Navigator, the Video Decoder and Audio Decoder from the same vendor, e.g., you can either select Microsoft DVD Navigator, Cyberlink Audio Decoder and Cyberlink Video Decoder (version 6+), or choose Microsoft DVD Navigator, MpegDecoder012 and AC3Filter.
Make sure your DVD disc is not scratched, damaged, and your DVD-ROM is functioning. Even a DVD movie can be played by the DVD player, it doesn't necessary mean that it can be read by AVex. The spinning speed during converting/recording will still be maximized, thus causing the disc unreadable by AVex; meanwhile, try converting the same DVD movie on another DVD-ROM(preferred new DVD-ROM), see if it is caused by the DVD-ROM. If it can be read by the other DVD-ROM, then you should replace your old DVD-ROM with another one.
Sometimes, if problem persists, uninstall and reinstall the AVex program, DirectX 9.0c, audio and video decoders, and try again.
Please contact support@avex-dvd.com, for further assistance, if none of the above solutions work for you. Please don't forget to add the "C:\temp\avex.elog" as an attachment when you write to the AVex support.

Q: For some reason, some specific DVD movies can't be open by the program, while others can be open and converted without any problem. Is there anything wrong with the program?
|
A: Make sure your DVD disc is not scratched, damaged, and your DVD-ROM is functioning. Even a DVD movie can be played by the DVD player, it doesn't necessary mean that it can be read by AVex. Unlike normal playback disc reading, the spinning speed during converting/recording will still be maximized, thus causing the disc unreadable by AVex.
If the problematic DVD movies are brand new, try converting the same DVD movie on another DVD-ROM(preferred new DVD-ROM), see if it is caused by the DVD-ROM. If it can be read by the other DVD-ROM, then you should replace your old DVD-ROM with another one.
Please contact support@avex-dvd.com, for further assistance, if none of the above solutions work for you. Please don't forget to add the "C:\temp\avex.elog" as an attachment when you write to the AVex support.

Q: When I insert the DVD movie into the DVD-ROM, the program couldn't recognize the DVD movie, what should I do?
|
A: Open the AVex program -> click menu "File" -> click "Open DVD" -> select the DVD drive where you insert the DVD movie, e.g., if you put DVD in drive H:, then select drive H: in the "Browse for folder" dialog window.

Q: The product used to converting DVD movie/video file at a much faster speed, for some reason, it becomes very slow recently, how do I get back the fast speed?
|
A: Make sure your system is clean and is not affected by virus, back-door malicious program.
If you have installed some applications since you installed the AVex program, make sure these programs are not messed up with the original working audio and video decoders on your system. You can use GSpot Codec Information Tool described above to detect any incompatible codecs, such as Ligos audio and video codec, MontiVision Deinterlace filter, etc. Uninstall these codecs might solve your problem. If you did install lots of programs such as TV Card Driver, third-party media players, etc, we strongly recommend you rebuild a clean system, then install as few codecs as possible, install those which are compatible with AVex, or in other words, standard codecs compatible with Windows Media Player, such as MpegDecoder012, AC3Filter, Cyberlink Audio and Video Decoders (version 6+), InterVideo Audio and Video Decoders(version 6+), etc, and try converting the movie again.
Please contact support@avex-dvd.com, for further assistance, if none of the above solutions work for you. Please don't forget to add the "C:\temp\avex.elog" as an attachment when you write to the AVex support.

Q: The product used to working without a problem, but it no longer works. How to make it work again?
|
A: First check if your system is clean.
The problem is probably caused by installing too many incompatible codecs on your system. Please use the GSpot Codec Information Tool described above to detect any incompatible codecs, such as Ligos audio and video codec, MontiVision Deinterlace filter, etc. Uninstall these codecs might solve your problem. To make it work better, have your system rebuilt and have only the necessary standard codecs installed, among which are: MpegDecoder012, AC3Filter, Cyberlink Audio and Video Decoders (version 6+), InterVideo Audio and Video Decoders(version 6+), Nero Audio and Video Decoders (version 6.18). And install the DirectX 9.0c (details click here), if possible.
Then open AVex program, go to menu "Options", click "DVD Settings", modify the DVD Setting as any ONE of the following Combination, but don't mix them up, e.g., don't mix Cyberlink Audio Decoder with Nero Video Decoder:
- DVD Navigator: Microsoft DVD Navigator
Audio Decoder:
AC3Filter
Video Decoder:
MpegDecoder012
- DVD Navigator: Microsoft DVD Navigator
Audio Decoder:
Cyberlink Audio
Video Decoder:
Cyberlink Video Decoder
- DVD Navigator: Microsoft DVD Navigator
Audio Decoder:
Intervideo Audio Decoder
Video Decoder: Intervideo Video Decoder
- DVD Navigator: Microsoft DVD Navigator
Audio Decoder:
Nero Audio Decoder
Video Decoder: Nero Video Decoder

Q: When I played the converted file, the audio is choppy/clicking/sticky/crackling/noisy. How do I get rid of the audio problem?
|
A: We advise you always use WinDVD player 7 or PowerDVD player 6, then launch the AVex converter, go to menu "Options", choose "DVD Settings", then select "Microsoft DVD Navigator", "Intervideo Video Decoder" and "Intervideo Audio Decoder" in the "DVD Settings" dialog window; or select select "Microsoft DVD Navigator", "Intervideo Video Decoder" and "Intervideo Audio Decoder" in the "DVD Settings" dialog window.
Or, you can choose the settings at the medium level, do not try to set up the audio bitrate and video bitrate too high. Meanwhile, reducing the resolution might also help.
Sometimes, Macrovision or Ligos might also cause the audio problem, removing these codecs will help.

|
Q: I got a macrovision error, how can eliminate it?
|
A:Macrovision errors usually indicate a failure to authenticate the Macrovision-protected video content on a DVD disc. Macrovision is the analog copy protection applied to most DVD's, in order to prevent them from being copied to video tape. Your system, particularly your video card and drivers, must be configured properly or Macrovision errors can result. There can be several possible causes of this problem:
- Improperly Configured Video Drivers: Make sure you install video drivers according to the manufacturer specifications. Detailed instructions for properly installing or upgrading video drivers are usually included in a readus file that accompanies the driver files.
- Incompatible Software or Drivers: Please make sure that your DVD decoder is fully compatible with your current system configuration. This includes video card, version of Windows, version of DirectX, etc. Be sure to visit the decoder's website for information about system requirements if you are not completely sure of compatibility. If your decoder is not fully compatible, then an upgrade for it may be available that will make it compatible.
- TV Out Feature May Be Activated: On most notebook PC's, as well as some desktop computers, the display adapter has a TV Out feature. If you are viewing DVD video on a computer, you should make sure that only the display that is currently in use is active. For instance, if you have a laptop and you do not have an external monitor or TV connected to it, make absolutely sure that this feature is not currently activated. If it is, then the video hardware will be trying to send a signal to both places, and an error is likely to occur.
- No Support For Macrovision In Video Drivers: This is becoming a rare issue, but it can still happen. Older video cards (mainly, models released before 1997) probably will not support Macrovision. In addition, some video card makers can sometimes release driver updates even for current models that are incorrectly configured for Macrovision support. In these cases, the solution would be to either replace the video card with a newer model, or install a set of drivers that include Macrovision support in them; depending on what the situation may be.
- Insufficient Video Resources: sometimes a lack of hardware resources can trigger a Macrovision error. You may want to change your display to 800x600 pixels and High Color (16-Bit), and see if this makes any difference. Also, if you have recently replaced your monitor or have your system connected to a different monitor than it usually uses, make sure that Windows is not still configured to use the previous monitor model. This too can trigger a Macrovision error.
